The Via Transilvanica in Romania - a path full of adventure and discoveries

The Via Transilvanica is a unique long-distance hiking trail that winds its way through the heart of Romania, revealing both the scenic diversity and the rich cultural heritage of this fascinating country. As you explore this extraordinary trail, you will not only be amazed by breathtaking panoramas, but also by the numerous villages and historic towns whose history and traditions will give you a deep insight into rural life.

Although the trail is more than 1,400 kilometers (870 miles) long in total, you can experience it in individual stages or as a whole, making it ideal for both experienced hikers and leisure hikers. The Via Transilvanica runs from Putna in the north to Drobeta-Turnu Severin in the southwest, allowing you to cross both majestic mountain landscapes and rolling hills. Medieval towns, old fortified churches and untouched forests and rivers also await you, giving you a feeling of unspoiled nature and freedom.

By the wayside...

An absolute highlight on your way is the medieval town of Sighișoara. This city is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but also impresses with its perfectly preserved old town. As you stroll through the winding alleyways, you will be enchanted by the colorful houses, charming cafés and imposing mountain church. At the same time, the city gives you the feeling of immersing yourself in another time, so that every step you take is a new adventure.

Not far from Sighișoara you will find the “Breite” nature reserve, a very special place that offers a unique natural landscape with its old oak pastures. While hiking here, you can enjoy the impressive biodiversity as well as the peace and tranquillity of this ancient cultural landscape. This makes the “Breite” area a perfect contrast to the bustling old town of Sighisoara and a place where you can take a deep breath and recharge your batteries.

I was born and grew up in 1965 in the Raabestadt Eschershausen / Germany until I moved to Nuremberg (Bavaria) in 1995. After years in steady jobs and a stable life, I decided to take a new direction. Since fall 2023, I have been living in Transylvania in the beautiful city of Sighisoara and, so to speak, again
"in the countryside".
